Every Action Counts
World Cancer Day is a truly global event. In order to achieve our objective of reaching as much of the world’s population as possible, we need your help.
Whether you do something as large as running your own World Cancer Day campaign, or as simple as sharing our template messages amongst your networks, every action has an impact. Show the world that we can, I can… get involved in the fight against cancer.
ADD YOUR WCD ACTIVITY TO THE MAP OF IMPACT
The interactive WCD Map of Impact aims to feature all of the events, (social media) activities and actions that are taking place on/around World Cancer Day.
Everyone is encouraged to share their plans whether they are launching a report, organising a fundraising event or advocacy activity, we want the world to know and encouraged to get online and share it!
Even if you have an event, activity or campaign that does not fall on 4 February, please add it anyway. The map is a platform and a great opportunity to show the world all the great work our community is doing to reduce the global cancer burden.
Do you already know what you will be doing for World Cancer Day 2016?
Join the ‘Talking Hands’ activity
The ‘Talking Hands’ social media campaign is an entertaining and easy way to get involved in World Cancer Day, to show your support to the fight against cancer and increase the global impact of the Day.
It is as simple as that:
You can be as creative as you like. Alternatives to writing on your hands are either using all kinds of mediums (e.g. piece of paper, post-it, notebook, blackboard, writing in sand, printing on a t-shirt, computer/mobile screen, etc.) or using the special A4 document containing a patchwork of the WCD visual elements.
A toolkit has been developed to encourage people to join the ‘Talking Hands’ activity and provides ready-made messages to help promote the campaign on your social accounts and get others involved. Please feel free to share the toolkit – available here: www.worldcancerday.org/TalkingHandsCampaign.
Please use products that can be used on skin e.g. body paint, makeup. Please note that ballpoint pens or other water-based ink pens can be safely used, but make sure to avoid using permanent markers.

- Use social media to communicate about your World Cancer Day plans and share key messages in the lead up to and on the Day
The World Cancer Day Social Media Guide provides guidance on how to effectively use social platforms for marking the Day as well as ready-made tweets to adapt for your own use. The Guide is available in English, French and Spanish on www.worldcancerday.org/materials.
JOIN THE WCD THUNDERCLAP CAMPAIGN
Thunderclap is a tool that facilitates the mass dissemination of messages via Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr by simultaneously posting to the accounts of those who support the campaign. This is a great way to give the campaign visibility and increase the chances of ‘trending’ on social media platforms.
For our Thunderclap to go live, we need the support of a minimum of 250 individuals for the message to be broadcast.
DOWNLOAD WCD CAMPAIGN MATERIALS
We have developed campaign materials such as posters, factsheets and toolkits for your use to support and promote the Day and the theme. Be sure to share them within your organisation and wider network.
